Tripura Govt declares Sangrama Puja as a restricted holiday: CM
Agartala Sep 10: Chief Minister of Tripura Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced that the state government has decided to declare Sangrama Puja – worship of guardian deity of Reang community of the State – as a restricted holiday.
He said that the present government has undertaken several initiatives for the socio-economic development of the Janjati brothers and sisters, and their insightful suggestions and profound knowledge further strengthen his resolve to work with greater confidence for the upliftment of the poorest of the poor.
Dr. Saha said this while exchanging greetings with the respected Chief Samajpatis and listening to their valuable views on various aspects.

“This is for the first time, in an extended form, that all Samajpatis have come here. Until we develop brotherhood among us, we cannot move Tripura forward. And this will come based on belief, trust, and faith, so that the relationship will be further strengthened. There should not be any doubt. We must also develop brotherhood through work. There are so many problems faced by the Samajpatis. Time will speak everything. After our government came, we introduced an honorarium of Rs. 2000. This is a mark of respect. When I chaired a meeting, I observed that only Samajpatis from 10 communities were receiving the honorarium. But I decided to extend it to all 19 communities and increased it from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000,” he said.
Dr. Saha further informed that he has spoken with officials to ensure honorariums are provided to all the Samajpatis.
“When we take steps, there will be no question of extinction. Some sub-tribes are on the path of extinction. We don’t want to lose anyone. So, we have decided to give honorariums to all. We have appointed Sub-divisional and District-level Officers to look after the implementation of various schemes for the Janjati communities. I also raised the matter in the Cabinet regarding declaring a holiday on Sangrama Puja, which was passed and will now be included in the restricted holiday list. We don’t take any decision without the Government of India’s direction. My government and I are working following the directions of the Central Government. I am also talking about customary law,” said Dr. Saha.
He also stressed that no work should be based on emotion alone and that everyone must think and work to solve problems.
“After Prime Minister Narendra Modi came, a series of steps have been taken for the welfare of the Janjati community. The earlier government did not take any steps to solve the Bru issue, but after our government came, their problem was solved. And when I took charge as Chief Minister, I expedited their repatriation process. There will be problems, but we have to work to solve them,” he added.
