Chief Minister Prof. (Dr) Manik Saha has directed departments to step up civic, safety, and publicity measures for the Mayer Gamon ceremony on October 23, 2026 in Agartala while also exploring ways to attract foreign visitors and tourists to the annual event.

Agartala will host Mayer Gaman ceremony on October 23, 2026 with the area in front of Maharani Tulsibati Higher Secondary Girls’ School once again designated as the main venue.
The decision came at a preparatory meeting for the Sharad Samman and Mayer Gaman ceremony, chaired today, September 21, by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr) Manik Saha.
The Department of Information and Cultural Affairs organised the meeting at Muktdhara Auditorium. Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, West Tripura Zilla Parishad acting Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, AMC corporators and senior government officials attended the meeting.
Information and Cultural Affairs Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Revenue Department Secretary Milind Ramteke and IGP (Law and Order) Manchak Yippar were among those present.
Government steps up civic and safety preparations
The meeting focused on arrangements required for Durga Puja and the Mayer Gamon ceremony.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha directed the concerned departments to complete roadside tree pruning and the shifting of electrical wires quickly. The measures aim to ensure smooth movement and conduct of the Mayer Gaman event.
Saha also asked the police department to ensure easy and uninterrupted movement of ambulances during the Puja period.
He stressed the need for stricter police arrangements during Durga Puja. The Chief Minister also called on all concerned departments to work together to ensure that the festivities and Mayer Gamon ceremony take place smoothly.
Clubs call for DJ restrictions during immersion
Representatives of various clubs raised the issue of DJs during Durga Puja and idol immersion.
They urged the authorities to prohibit the use of DJs during these occasions.
The meeting also discussed measures for safe pandal construction, adequate lighting and the deployment of volunteers. Revenue Department Secretary Milind Ramteke called for special attention to these arrangements.
He also urged the concerned authorities to take steps to manage the additional waste generated during the Puja period.
CM seeks wider tourism promotion for Mayer Gamon
The government also discussed ways to increase the reach of Mayer Gamon beyond its local audience.
Saha called for greater publicity and promotion of the ceremony. He suggested inviting foreign guests to witness the event.
The Chief Minister also asked the concerned authorities to explore whether special tourism packages could be prepared around Durga Puja and Mayer Gamon.
The proposal reflects an effort to make the ceremony more attractive to tourists. Saha urged the departments concerned to work collectively towards this objective.
Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary Kiran Gitte said Mayer Gaman was gradually emerging as a reflection of Tripura’s cultural identity.
The ceremony has been organised in Agartala since 2022. Gitte said everyone should work together to make the event more attractive to tourists.
Mayor highlights growing visitor interest
AMC Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder said the government’s objective was to make Durga Puja and Mayer Gamon successful through public cooperation and by meeting people’s expectations.
He stressed that maintaining security and law and order was essential for people to enjoy the festivities.
Majumder said the law and order situation in the state was currently normal. He also pointed to the growing number of visitors attending Mayer Gaman each year.
The mayor appealed to major clubs to participate in the ceremony.
He said a single-window system had been introduced for approval of club-organised pujas. The registration fee for the pujas had also been waived.
According to Majumder, Agartala city hosted 697 pujas last year.
Police caution Puja organisers
IGP (Law and Order) Manchak Yippar urged Puja organisers to stay away from forced collection of donations and traffic rule violations.
The administration also discussed measures to maintain orderly movement and public safety during the festive period.
Information and Cultural Affairs Department Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya presented a detailed overview of preparations for the Sharad Samman and Mayer Gamon ceremony.
Officials from different departments and representatives of various clubs attended the meeting.
A documentary on Mayer Gamon was also screened during the discussion.
