Specialist Teams Lead Surgeries
Specialist nephrologists from Agartala Government Medical College & GBP Hospital played a key role in the latest transplant procedures.
The nephrology team comprised Dr. Manas Ghosh, Dr. Samaresh Pal, Dr. Reshmi Das and Dr. Udayan Saha.
Specialist urologists Dr. Mukut Debnath, Dr. Bijit Ghosh and Dr. Jiban Debnath also took part in the surgeries. Dr. Bhaskar Majumdar and Dr. Tapan Debbarma handled anaesthesia-related responsibilities.

Shija Hospital & Research Institute provided additional specialist support. Its team included Consultant Urologist and Transplant Surgeons Dr. Paonam Somendra Singh and Dr. Maharabam Mahal, along with Consultant Anaesthesiologist Dr. Thounaojam Dinesh Singh.
Nursing officers, floor nurses and operation theatre technicians from both hospitals also supported the procedures.
Six-Hour Operations
Senior Nursing Officers Tapati Chakraborty and Sanjib Kumar Das closely monitored the overall transplant process.
Both operations began at around 9 am and continued for nearly six hours. The surgical teams completed the procedures at approximately 3 pm.
Medical teams continued to monitor the donors and recipients after the surgeries.
Authorization Process Remains Mandatory
GBP Hospital follows the prescribed rules and guidelines for kidney transplantation.
Doctors proceed with a transplant only after the concerned Authorization Committee examines the case and grants the necessary approval.
The hospital conducts required medical examinations and tests before every procedure. These assessments include matching the donor’s kidney with the recipient.
This process ensures that the transplant team completes the required checks before surgery.
11 Transplants Completed Free of Cost
The latest procedures also underline the hospital’s continuing kidney transplant programme.
From its first transplant through the 11th procedure, Agartala Government Medical College & GBP Hospital has conducted all kidney transplants completely free of cost.
The programme also receives support from the Government of Tripura. The state government bears the travel expenses of the Shija Hospital medical team when its specialists travel from Manipur to Tripura for transplant procedures.
The completion of the 10th and 11th transplants marks another step in the development of kidney transplant services at GBP Hospital. The collaboration between the hospital’s specialist teams and Shija Hospital has supported the programme through its latest procedures.
