Agartala, August 27, 2019: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today inaugurated a workshop on “Organic Farming and Marketing” at Pragna Bhaban in Agartala. The workshop was held under aegis of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department. Presently, around seven thousand hectre land is under organic cultivation in the State.
In his inaugural speech, the Chief Minister advised the Agri-officials to consult marketing experts for expanding reach of agri-produces at State and national level. Pointing out to E-marketing facility, Biplab Kumar Deb said, e-marketing will help easier access to bigger markets and it is important that our farmers learn to use the facility professionally.
Highlighting importance of organic cultivation, Deb said, “As uses of chemical fertilizers and pesticides are causing health hazards, prompt shift in favour of organic cultivation is needed – the State Government is encouraging organic cultivation. Besides, plans are being chalked out for marketing the organic products so that farmers can reap benefits”.
Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Manik Lal Das informed the participants, more than 9 thousand farmers have been registered as ‘Organic Farmers’. At present, organic cultivation is practiced in seven thousand hectre land. Initially, under organic farming turmeric, maize, ginger, pineapple, black and other variety of paddy will be cultivated, Manik Lal Das said.
