Agartala, Sep 05, 2019: Religious tourism in Tripura is set to get a boost as Tripura Government has allotted 14.22 acre land to construct replicas depicting 51 Shakti Peethas at one place. Replicas of Peethas will be constructed at allotted land at Fulkumari Mouja of Udaipur in Tripura.
As per the ancient religious scriptures, there are altogether 51 Shaktipeethas scattered in India and other neighboring countries. Among those, 38 of the temples are in Indian territory, while 6 are located in Bangladesh, Nepal in 3 and 2 of the temples are situated in Pakistan. Sri Lanka and Tibet have one each. In India, maximum of the Shaktipeethas—11 are located in West Bengal.
For common masses, it is, apparently, impossible to visit all 51 Shaktipeeths in a life span which is considered to be one of the greatest virtues a devotee can achieve, according to ancient Hindu scriptures. Therefore, the tourism department of Tripura has decided to set up exact replicas of the Shaktipeeths near Tripurasundari Matabari temple in an obvious move to boost tourism in state.
The tourism department hopes, once the temple gets ready, Hindu pilgrims from different parts of the country as well as Bangladesh will visit the state. The proposed location is at Fulkumari village just 3 KMs from the Tripurasundari Temple which falls on the Udaipur Amarpur road.
Tourism Department has prepared preliminary project report of Rs 44 Crore to develop replicas and sent the proposals to the 15th Finance Commission for consideration of funds. To start with the State Government has already completed the demarcation of land and other necessary paper works for the project. Very soon the land construction will be started by the Tourism Department under the Swadesh Darshan scheme.
