Agartala, September 12, 2019: Police arrested one alleged dog smuggler for carrying five Indian breed dogs tied in gunny sacks last night while these dogs were reportedly being whisked off to Mizoram. The detainee identified as Jarendra Reang (23) is resident of Mungiyakami in Teliamura.
Local sources said, SI of Kanchanpur PS Narpuita Halam stopped one vehicle (TR02 T 0201) at Santipur naka. During search, Police found five dogs inside gunny bags. OC of the PS Paritosh Das said, the vehicle was moving from Mungiyakami to Mizoram via Kanchanpur and Damchhera in North Tripura.
Smuggling dogs to Mizoram is lucrative as dog meat is allegedly being sold there at Rs 700-800 per kg.
