Heavy rains lashed out across the State today, however, on year to year analysis, rainfall till now this year is less than that of last year. As per available report till report filing, one 55 year old person of Anandanagar near Agartala died after a mud wall collapsed on him.
People woke up to a wet Tuesday today. In Agartala, heavy rainfall inundated many areas. However, water logging did not last for a prolonged times. After the rains stopped in afternoon, water in affected areas started to recede and within less than expected time, city roads were cleared of water logging and life returned to normalcy.
One person Jagadish Das (55) of Anandanagar area in Agartala died after mud wall of his room collapsed and debris fell on him. Sources said, Das’s mud wall collapsed due to today’s heavy rains and he fell under the thick mud. He died on spot.
According to Met sources, the total rainfall recorded till now, was less than that of the last year. However, monsoon seems to be gaining momentum from last week and more rains are likely.
“Last year, altogether 1,457.8 mm seasonal rainfall was recorded. And by this time, the total amount of rainfall recorded stood at 817mm. This year, the rainfall amount was a bit less–720 mm”, the source added.
The regional weather station has recorded a whopping 44.40 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours in Agartala and surrounding areas. In the capital, normal life was disrupted. Office-goers were particularly hit by the sudden heavy rain in the morning. The Met department has warned of heavy rainfall across the state tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature settled at 30.5 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature settled at 24.6 degree Celsius, Met officials said.
The Haora river flowing through Agartala is below the ‘warning level’. At present, water level at Haora River is 8.4 meter whereas ‘warning level’ is at 9.13 meter. In view forecast of more heavy rains, Sadar Subdivision administration has urged people to stay alert. The administration has also asked the Quick response team to stay prepared for emergency.
