Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb took exception to the Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee’s decision of taking oath as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal after being defeated in Nandigram by BJP stalwarts Shuvendu Adhikari while addressing the media in Agartala on Tuesday.
Talking about Mamata’s decision, Biplab Kumar Deb said, Trinamool is a separate party and has every right to choose their leader of the house. However, if the leader wants to be the Chief Ministerial candidate despite being defeated, it raises a number of questions on the moral values of the leader.
“Trinamool Congress has won the elections but Mamata Banerjee did not. She should understand, she has been rejected by the people. People have not chosen her to lead. Had this been the case with me, I would have told my party high-command that I was not selected by the people to lead the state. However, they (Trinamool) have their own liberty to take decisions”, said the Chief Minister.
Appreciating BJP’s sterling performance and considerable rise in vote share in the just concluded assembly polls to five states, he said, BJP has left its mark. “In all the states, BJP has improved its position. In Assam BJP improved its vote share as well as retained power. In Kerala the vote percentage has greatly augmented. In Puducherry, NDA is forming the government. In West Bengal, BJP had come a long way from three seats to 77 seats. And in Tamilnadu, BJP had bagged four seats where BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan defeated superstar Kamal Hassan ”, said the Chief Minister.
Condemning the post-poll violence in West Bengal, he said, “what is going on in Bengal today? In Assam, BJP was in power. We returned to power but not a single incident violence took place as of now. In 2018, the culture post poll violence had been completely wiped out from Tripura. Some stray incidents did take place but In Bengal, six BJP karyakartas were murdered so far. Women were being molested. The TMC supremo must not forget her responsibilities. She should come forwards and appeal for peace. As of now, she was merely making lip service to control the violence”.
Deb also said that his party respected the role of opposition awarded by the people of West Bengal and he believed that the BJP in Bengal under the apt leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi would play the role of “healthy opposition”.
He had also announced that expressing support to the violence stricken families of Bengal, the state BJP would hold protests across Tripura holding placards. “Maintaining the restrictions of Covid 19, maximum 20 party workers will participate in the protests. Moreover, we shall also lit candles in our houses on Wednesday praying for the departed souls who lost their lives due to the violence”, Deb said.
