Frontal Organizations of Tripura Unit of CPM submitted a memorandum on a set of demands to Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar in Agartala on Friday. The charter of demands included among others, demands for adequate 8c immediate financial, health, and logistics arrangements for the BPL families, financially weak, and other families.
A 4-member delegation of CPM frontal wings – Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP), All India Kishan Sabha (AIKS), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) – met the Chief Secretary. The delegation comprised of GMP president Jitendra Choudhury, secretary of Tripura Unit of AIKS Pabitra Kar, secretary of CITU of the State unit Shankar Prasad Datta and secretary of AIAWU, Shyamal Dey.
During the meeting with the Chief Secretary, the leaders said that the second wave of Covid19 had hit the health and economy. As a result, the life and livelihood of common people have been adversely affected. In view crisis that the common people are facing, frontal wings of CPM has raised specific demands, leaders told the media.
The delegates demanded, “poor families outside the income tax net, both in the rural and urban arms, should be provided with 10-kilo rice per head per month and Rs. 7,500 cash per family per month, till the Covid-19 situation is improved”. For job creation, the leaders also demanded, “at least 10 mandays should be provided to each family in each month out of MG-NREGA”.
For Jhumia families, the leaders demanded, “Like previous years Jhumia families should be provided with seeds in free of cost and Subsistence Allowances at least for 3(three) months from the State Government and TTAADC. All un-serviceable Drinking Water Sources should be repaired on war footings”.
Referring to the Covid19 threat, the Left leaders demanded, “Universal vaccination program should be immediately launched. Covid Hospital should be set up in all District Head Quarters and remote Sob-Division of the State with all necessary equipment and trained staff. All vacancies of Doctor, Nurse, Paramedic and other Health Worker in the Health Department should be filled up on urgent basis”.
The leaders expressed hope that the Government look into the issues mentioned in the memorandum sincerely and take actions accordingly considering the gravity of the situation.
