As the Corona continues to batter Tripura, the State Government has announced night curfew (6 pm to 5 am) across the state with effect from May 17. The order will remain in force till May 26 next.

The decision has been taken by the council of ministers, Education minister and cabinet spokesman Ratanlal Nath has said this at a press conference in Agartala on Tuesday.

Notably, Corona Curfew was imposed in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area on May 17 and shall remain in force till May 26 next. Demand for night curfew across the State was gaining momentum as large gatherings in rural markets were noticed. Moreover, with no restrictions imposed on social programmes like marriages in rural areas, Covid appropriate behavior was grossly violated.

Announcing the decision, Nath said, apart from the corona curfew, the state government has restricted inter-district movement except emergency services with effect from May 20. He said the notification with detailed guidelines would be issued on Wednesday.

However, a section of people are violating the Corona Curfew in AMC area despite the huge surge in Covid cases. Similar trend was observed in Containment Zones where people were found entering and exiting the Containment zones breaking the barricades.

Meanwhile, Tripura recorded the highest one-day spike on Tuesday – also highest number of tests were conducted today. The coronavirus has claimed five more lives as well as infected more 746 persons in the past 24 hours. Now, the tally of active cases stands 5,045 while the death toll increased to 447.

Briefing media on the latest COVID19 situation, Nath said, “Tripura recorded the highest single-day count of Covid tests – 9,789 in the past 24 hours. Among them, 746 samples have tested positive while five more deaths due to Coronavirus have been reported.”

According to an official report, out of 746 positive cases, the West Tripura district has reported 413 cases alone. Meanwhile, 317 patients have recovered during this period.

Nath also said, two Dedicated Covid Hospitals and 42 Covid Centres across the state are now functioning with 2,837 beds.
