Tripura Government has decided to procure 20,000 MT paddy and provide Rs 1000 to each of 7 lakh needy families.
As the Tripura Government has decided to extend Corona Curfew upto June 5 next, the Government has come up with two important decisions pertaining to needy families and farmers of the State. Cabinet spokesperson and Education Minister, Ratan Lal Nath said this in a press meet in Agartala on Tuesday.
He said, the Government has decided to launch fresh paddy procurement drive for the benefit of farmers. Also, to lessen the plight of needy people, the government has also decided to provide financial assistance to needy and poor families at the time Corona scare.
Detailing about the decisions of the council of ministers, Nath said, “The Tripura Government has decided to procure more 20,000 MT paddy at the rate of Rs 18.68 per kg from the farmers. With this procurement drive, farmers will receive Rs 37 crore 36 lakh”.
In this connection the Minister also said, “Since 2018-19, Biplab Deb led Government started paddy procurement drive in the State had already procured 60,000 MT paddy from the farmers at MSP. As a result the farmers received Rs 107 cr 66 lakh. Nath termed the procurement drive as historical step and said, after assuming power Deb led BJP-IPFT Government took several steps, including procurement of paddy from farmers at MSP, to augment earnings of the farmers. He also pointed out that no previous Governments of Tripura procured paddy at MSP from farmers.
In view of ongoing Corona Curfew, the State Government has also taken an important decision to provide financial assistance through DBT. Speaking the decision, Ratan Lal Nath said, “The Government has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 1000 to each of 7 lakh needy families of the State. The assistance will be deposited to beneficiaries’ account through DBT”. The Minister also said, “Total expenditure for this purpose is pegged at Rs 70 crore”.
