Tripura Police notched success against ganja smuggling and seized dry cannabis of worth over Rs 1 crore from three different places in Teliamura area on Friday.
Police seized dry ganja worth over 1900 kg from two outbound trucks and a Maruti car in raids at Mungiakami area and Hawaibari area in Teliamura on Friday. Police arrested a total of five persons.
As part of routine vehicle checking, Mungiakami police led by Sub-Inspector Ranjit Das and Officer In-charge Dhrubjoy Reang conducted a search operation on a truck and seized 832 Kgs of dry cannabis sealed in packets from the truck bearing number PB10DZ9404. Police arrested the driver of the vehicle.
During an on-spot interrogation, driver of the truck Pradip Singh who hails from Punjab pointed out another truck bearing number – ML08G4094 and informed police that the truck was carrying another big dry ganja consignment.
Based on his inputs, the police along with the CRPF jawans chased the second truck and intercepted to search it around 4km away from 41-mile. Police recovered and seized around 1072 Kgs of dry ganja from the truck. Police arrested the driver identified as Abhimannu Roy and the co-driver, Aman Kumar.
Speaking about the seizure, Teliamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sona Charan Jamatia said both the vehicles were seized and brought to Mungiakami police station.
Police searched the two vehicles and seized a total of 1904 kg of dry ganja worth over Rs. 1 crore approximately.
SDPO Jamatia said, “These ganja packets were loaded from the area adjacent to Jirania petrol pump.”
On the other hand, Teliamura Traffic Police and Traffic DSP Vikramjit Shukla Das seized 69 kg of cannabis from a Maruti car bearing number – WB06A2588 at Hawai Bari area under Teliamura Police Station. The estimated market value of the recovered cannabis is around Rs 3 lakh. Police arrested two youths in this case.
