The Trinamool Congress claimed on Saturday that at least seven of its leaders and workers were seriously injured after their vehicle and a party office was allegedly attacked by the ruling BJP members in separate incidents in Tripura.
The opposition CPI-M has also condemned the alleged attack on TMC, saying that democracy has been totally throttled under the BJP government in the state since March 2018.
However, Strongly denying the charges, the BJP claimed that the TMCis trying to spread the “virus of political violence” in the northeastern state, where “outsiders” with the backing of CPI-M are fomenting trouble and lawlessness.
At Dharmanagar A group of 35-40 Trinamool Congress (TMC) activists blocked the road at the North District Party Office ar Rajbari in Dharmanagar on Saturday after some miscreants broke the boundary of the Party office and tore apart flags, festoons etc. today afternoon.
The road blockade forced Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to take a detour while returning to a helipad on the outskirts of Dharmanagar town after attending some programmes at the district headquarters.
Police personnel led by the Additional SP, arrested the agitating TMC workers including Subal Bhowmik who reached Dharmanagar to attend a programme later in the evning.
Road blockade agitation sparked tension in Dharmanagar town as hundreds of slogan shouting BJP supporters cordoned off the arrested TMC workers including Bhowmik.
Police administration deployed large posse of TSR jawans and Police forces to save the TMC supporters from the BJP activists.
Even as there is no report of any untoward incidences, simmering tension is palpable in Dharmanagar.
In a separate incident, two Trinamool Congress (TMC) youth leaders from West Bengal, who are now in the state, were injured when their vehicle was allegedly attacked at Ambassa in Dhalai district on Saturday.
Speaking to the media, TMC spokesperson Debangshu Bhattacharya said that he along with Sudip Raha and Jaya Dutta were travelling to Dharmanagar from Agartala.
When the vehicle reached near Ambassa, miscreants, allegedly BJP activists started pelting stones and also attacked the vehicle leaving Raha and Dutta wounded.
Both the parties staged separate road blockades on national highway within a distance of 500 meters from each other.
At a point of time, police had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the mob and bring the situation under control.
However, speaking to the media a BJP spokesman denied the allegations levelled by the TMC and said that there was no involvement of any BJP worker in the incident.
