The indigenous wing of CPI-M, Tripura Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) has reiterated the demand for transferring more power to the TTAADC to attain vibrancy in the administration as well as ensure faster growth of the indigenous people.   

 

GMP supporters observed the World Indigenous Day in Agartala on Monday. Activists with placards stood in front of the City Centre and raised slogans hailing World Indigenous Day.

 

The Central Government must table the 125th Constitution Amendment Bill 2019 in the Parliament for transferring legislative and financial powers to elected Councils, said indigenous wing of CPI-M, Ganamukti Parishad president Jitendra Chowdhuri while speaking on the occasion.

 

Chowdhuri demanded the government to ensure immediate passing of “The 125th Constitution Amendment Bill 2019” with necessary legislative and financial powers to the hands of the elected council for fulfilling the aspirations of indigenous people and building of a vibrant TTAADC as well as the vibrant Tripura.

 

“Place the necessary bill in the Parliament for inclusion of the Kok-Borok under the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India, initiate measures to preserve and develop the mother tongue and culture of all the ethnic groups of the State including Halam-Kuki, Mog,Chakma, Santhal, Munda and Orang etc.,” Chowdhuri said while addressing a gathering at Agartala on Monday.

 

Meanwhile, Chowdhuri said, “As Covid-19 situations and late monsoon have largely affected the jhum (Slash and burn) cultivation this year, the jhumia families should be compensated with cash relief of Rs. 25,000 and 50 man-days job per family, in addition to their due of 100 man-days under MGNREGA.”

 

He also demanded the government to ensure housing under PMAY scheme and providing patta under RoFR to all residual landless ST families, who were staying in the forest area for years. On jobs for ST people, Chowdhury urged the government to fill up all the available vacancies along with the backlog under the government department and Undertakings by observing the 100 point roster.
