With a call for united struggle to achieve legitimate and constitutional rights, World Indigenous Day has been celebrated across by the TTAADC administration in Tripura with due solemnity on Monday. This year, TTAADC did not arrange any programme on the Day in the capital city, Agartala, due to Corona Pandemic situation. However, in every district, ADC administration held programmes to observe the day.     

 

The main programme on the Day was celebrated at Mungiyakami in which Advisor to the TTAADC cum MDC, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, CEM Purnachandra Jamatia, advisor to the TTAADC Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl and other dignitaries were present in the programme.

 

The programme was inaugurated by Pradyot Kishore Debbarma. He welcomed the Samajpati of different communities and chairmen of different sub-Zonal under Khowai Zone with traditional Risa.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Debbarma urged people to shun differences and step forward in unison to achieve the Constitutional rights of the indigenous people.  

 

Besides, Debbarma handed over Rs 1 lakh to the family members of late Mantrilal Kaipeng of Twichindrai. Out of the total amount, Rs 75 thousand were provided by the ADC administration and the rest was given by Pradyot Kishore.

 

CEM Purnachandra Jamatia highlighted several steps taken by the Pradyot Kishore led Tipra Motha controlled ADC administration for the welfare of indigenous people. He asserted, works to materialize the dream of Pradyot Kishore relating to the development of indigenous people are continuing in ADC areas.

 

In his speech, Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl highlighted the ‘exploitation’ and ‘deprivation’ of indigenous communities. He stressed the necessity of strengthening brotherhood in the struggle for achieving rights of indigenous people.
