One under trial person managed to give Police a slip and escaped from Police custody on Wednesday morning.
The undertrial, identified as Bhadra Debbarma, was arrested by Kailashahar Police on Tuesday and was kept in custody under Kailashahar Police Station until he would be produced before the Court today.
Local sources said, the 19 year old under trial, Bhadra Debbarma lured one 16-year girl of Kailashahar and eloped with her four days ago. The father of the victim lodged a complaint with Kailashahar Women PS on August 8 last. Based on the complaint, Kailashahar Women Police arrested Bhadra on Tuesday night.
However, as there was no ‘lock up’ in Kailashahar Women PS, the Offier-in-Charge of Kailashahar PS was consulted and kept the accused there in Police custody.
On Wednesday early morning, Bhadra gave police a slip under pretext of washing hands. He soon disappeared. This triggered day-long intensive searching operation. Police personnel along with TSR jawans made desperate efforts to nab the accused person.
At last, Bhadra was found on a roof top of a house at Kancherghat area in Kailashahar in the evening. Police nabbed him and brought him back to Police custody under tight security.
Apart from sensational ATM hacker escape, few other under-trials and jail inmates made attempts to escape in recent past. While the Turkish ATM hacker remains elusive, other accused persons and jail inmates were nabbed by Police.
In most of the case, such persons escaped or made attempt to escape while accessing toilets. In case of Bhadra too, Police were found off-guard as Bhadra ran away under pretext of washing hands after using a toilet.
It seems Police need to ponder over enhancing security while handling such persons.
