Political mercury in Khowai soared high after political clashes and chaos erupted on Thursday in which at least eight persons were injured including 3 police men and several shops and vehicles were vandalized.

 

While CPM leaders blamed the BJP supporters for the clashes, BJP held CPM responsible for today’s skirmish in Khowai.

 

Police sources said, in the attack SDPO Rajiv Sutradhar, Inspector Satyajit Mallick and SI L Darlong sustained injuries.

 

Narrating the situation, local sources said, CPM supporters held a rally, as per the pre-scheduled event, in support of 12-point demand at Khowai today afternoon. The rally was conducted peacefully, however, trouble started after the rally was over and supporters were returning home.

 

Two CPM supporters – Swarup Sarkar(28) and Raju Rabidas were attacked by miscreants at Lalchhara area in Khowai. A group of CPM supporters rushed to the spot – but found no one there. However, CPM supporters broke down the boundary wall of under construction BJP party office. One makeshift shop was also damaged.

 

Following the incident, a group of people armed with sticks, iron rods etc attack CPM Sub-divisional Office and barged into the office. The miscreants ransacked the office and two cars, as well as six bikes, were vandalized.

 

CPM MLA Nirmal Biswas said, in today’s multiple attacks, five CPM supporters were injured among them two are undergoing treatment in hospital.

 

The attacks have triggered tension and panic among the local people. A large posse of security personnel was deployed to quell the tension.

 

Meanwhile, BJP leaders blamed the CPM for creating tension in peaceful Khowai. Addressing a press meet, the BJP leaders said, they are mulling to lodge complaints with the police against the CPM activists for breaking the boundary wall of the land where BJP is constructing a new party office.
