Along with the rest of the Nation, the 50th Vijay Diwas of neighbouring Bangladesh was celebrated in Tripura. Through various programmes, people remembered the Indian heroes of the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war who sacrificed their lives to liberate East Pakistan from the clutches of the Pakistani army.

 

The main programme was held in Agartala. The state tourism Minister Pranajit Singha Roy paid tribute to the war heroes at Martyr’s column at Albert Ekka Park in Agartala and said that India played a key role in the creation of Bangladesh and is still working for further strengthening bilateral relations with Bangladesh.

 

50th-Vijay-Diwas-TripuraHe said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government at the centre is working on diverse development programmes for improving the bilateral trade, commerce, human resource, tourism and cultural development through Tripura with Bangladesh.

 

Pointing out the infrastructural development of Tripura connecting Bangladesh, the Minister said that the bridge over the River Feni has already become operational. The bridge connects Chittagong seaport by road from South Tripura and the track laying works for Agartala – Akhura railways have been going on a priority basis while SEZ in Sabroom is all set to be functional to attract foreign investment taking the advantage of seaport access in Bangladesh.

 

Tripura government has decided to host an Indo-Bangla tourism and cultural festival at Agartala in February next to further strengthen relationships with Bangladesh, he said.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala, Mohammad Jobayed Hosen said the Bangladesh government is keen to identify the sites in Tripura having historical importance concerning the 1971 liberation War of Bangladesh.
