Divyangjan people are not a burden of society – the Government is working to assist them through different welfare initiatives. The responsibility of a good citizen is to stand by the side of the Divyangjan and elderly people as well as to help them – this is our moral duty, said Union MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik while inaugurating Samajik Adhikarita Shivir in Udaipur on Saturday.
Among others, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, MLAs Biplab Kumar Ghosh, Rampada Jamatia, Ranjit Das, Amal Chandra Bhowmik and Sabhadhipati of Gomati Zilla Parishad, Manager of ALIMCO Mukesh Mian were present in the Samajik Adhikarita Shivir.
Speaking on the occasion, Pratima Bhowmik said, “The Government is working for the welfare of the Divyangjan people along with overall development of the country. The State and Central Governments have initiated several initiatives to assist them. Divyangjan people also have talent – if they get a chance, Divyangjan will also be settled in life. The Union and the State Governments are working in tandem to implement various welfare measures for the Divyangjan and elderly people”.
She stressed to ensure that the benefits of all the government schemes reach the Divyangjan people. In this connection, the Minister also said the Government helped the Divyangjan people through various steps during the Covid Pandemic.
The Union Minister also the Central and the State Government are working together for holistic development of the North East region.
Referring to the welfare of elderly people, Pratima Bhowmik said Self Help Groups for 10 lakh elderly people to ensure sustainable income.
Later, aids and assistive devices – Tricycle, Wheelchair, hearing aid etc – were distributed among the selected Divyangjan and elderly people in the Samajik Adhikarita Shivir.
