Yet another heart surgery has been done successfully in AGMC & GBP Hospital.

A team of doctors under the leadership of Cardiac Surgeon and Consultant of Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology (CTVS and IR) Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharjee on January 28 achieved success in Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) surgery.

It is to be noted that the CTVS and IR department has also achieved success in an open – heart surgery on January 20 last for the first time.

A youth of 38 years hailing from Amarpur was admitted on December 9, 2021 in the hospital after a heart attack and chest pain. He was treated and his condition stabilized. Later, doctors at the CTVS Cath lab on December 15, 2021 performed angiogram and detected severe blockage in the coronary arteries of his heart and recommended to go for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.

Accordingly, this complex surgery was carried out for 6 hours yesterday. The surgery did not require any blood transfusion. Instead, a Cell Saver Machine was used for the first time in Tripura which carried out blood transfusion automatically. As a result, there was no loss of patient’s blood.

Anesthesiologist was Dr. Surajit Pal. Perfusionist was Sujan Sahu, Physician Assistant Sudipta Mandal, Scrub Nurse Zaheer Hussain, Arpita Sarkar, Sourab Shil, Mousumi Debnath, Anna Bahadur Jamatia, Prankeshab Deb, OT Assistant Ratan Mandal, Joydeep Chakraborty, Amrit Murasing, Coordinator Abhishek Dutta, Richashri Sarkar, Jemson Debbarma, Kishan Roy and other staffs.

The patient was kept in ventilation and then taken to the ICU in the midnight. Minhaj Uddin Ahmed, Asraful Goldar and Satyajit Debnath and other nurses were there for ICU care duty.

Now the condition of the patient is informed to be stable. Since the patient belongs from APL category family, the expenses had to be carried out by the family. The surgery was done at lesser cost as compared to private hospitals.
