Tripura Unit of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) – a Farmers’ Body – along with supporters of other frontal organizations of the Left Front brought out a rally against Union Government’s new Army personnel recruitment Scheme ‘Agnipath’.
Members of CITU, Tripura also held protests against the new Scheme today.
Led by veteran CPM and State secretary of AIKS, Pabitra Kar, the rally in Agartala on Friday (June 24, 2022) raised slogans demanding roll-back of the Agnipath Scheme.
Members of different farmers’ body under the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) are holding nationwide agitation today to oppose the scheme, and as part of the country wide programme, AIKS Tripura Unit is also holding protest rally in Agartala, Pabitra Kar said.
He informed the media that Union Government would issue notification for implementation of the Agnipath Scheme today – and it was decided SKM members would submit a memorandum to President of India Ram Nath Kovind today urging him to roll back the Agnipath Scheme.
Lashing out at BJP, Kar alleged the implementation of the Agnipath Scheme will affect the overall interests of the country as well as it is a humiliation of the youths of the country.
“Agnipath Scheme is an attempt to implement political agenda of RSS. This scheme for recruitment is illegal as the jobs are not permanent for 75 per cent of the recruited youths”, Pabitra Kar alleged.
He pointed out that year long struggle of the farmers against Agri-laws compelled the Government to repeal it – the Farmers’ body are concerned over the impact of Agnipath Scheme as most of Army personnel come from farmers’ families, Kar said.
On another note, Pabitra Kar said, Election Commission tried to protest the booth, but the SP failed.
“We demanded that let the miscreants who are violating the Sec 144 be detained – but nothing such happened”, he lamented.
Meantime, Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU) also hit streets in Agartala today on the same issue and demanding scraping the Agnipath Scheme. Former Minister and CPM leader Manik Dey led the rally.
