The evening life of inhabitants of an obscure village in Tripura witnessed a massive change after the arrival of electricity in the village, said Kalaha Reang of Nonachhara under Khowai district while interacting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conference on Saturday (July 30).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Grand Finale marking the culmination of ‘Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047’ today via video conferencing. During the programme, he launched the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme. He also dedicated and laid the foundation stone of various green energy projects of NTPC. He launched the National Solar rooftop portal and interacted with the beneficiaries of various schemes including Kalaha Reang of Tripura.
During the interaction with Reang, the Prime Minister wanted to know as to how much the village life was transformed after the electricity facility became available in his village.
In reply, Kalaha Reang – a beneficiary of Government’ Saubhagya Yojana – listed the changes in their lives after the electricity became accessible.
Reang informed the Prime Minister dependence of kerosene has reduced after the arrival of the Solar power based electricity in their village. “Earlier, we had to buy kerosene from distant markets around 20 kms away from our village. If kerosene was not available, the entire village would sink in darkness after sunset. With the Solar Power now available, our village becomes illuminated every evening”, Reang said.
When asked about other changes, Reang said, charging mobile phone sitting in my home has become a reality – earlier, they would have to travel a lot to charge mobiles from the ‘electrified’ villages.
“The Solar Power has improved education of children as they can now study in the evening under the solar light. People’s life also underwent marked changes. While we are now able to see TV and use fans during summer, we are also able to work at night for making traditional bamboo made items.
The Prime Minister asked him to utilize educational channels run by the government on TV. The Prime Minister also asked him to save electricity.
In the interaction programme, Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Secretary of Power department Brijesh Pandey, District Magistrate of Khowai L.T. Darlong, Tripura Sports Council secretary Amit Rakhsit, Sabhadhipati of Khowai Zila Joydeb Debbarma, Project Director of Power Grid Corporation Abhoy Chowdhury, Director General of Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency Mahananda Debbarma, Project Director Swaraj Debbarma and officials of TSECL were present.
