Cricket is one of the most loved and engaging sports. The state government, besides Tripura Cricket Association, is sincere towards developing cricket in the state, said Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha after inaugurating final match of Sadar sub-division T20 cricket organized by Tripura Cricket Association on Monday by releasing pigeons in the sky.

He said. Tripura’s boys and girls are no less competent than those of other states in sports. This has been proved by the state’s players over the years. Not only the sportspersons but the coaches also have earned special place for their contributions.

Dr Saha said, different playgrounds have been improvised in the state for development of sports and so that the sportspersons may practice well. He emphasized upon giving importance to actively participating in sports besides the regular academics.

The Chief Minister said, the sportspersons must practice much more as there is no alternative to practice. The role of the coach is important to take the sportspersons towards the right direction.

Dr Saha also said, the present state government is giving special importance to infrastructural development in sports for overall development of sports in the state.

In the inaugural programme, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder said, advanced infrastructure is being built in different areas of the state to develop the sports sector. As a result, talented sportspersons of different areas of the state are gradually emerging.

Speaking on the occasion, president of United Friends Club and senior journalist Subal Kumar Dey said, initiative has been taken to expand cricket related activities in rural areas. But that was hindered in the last two years due to Covid-19 situation. He also lauded this initiative of Tripura Cricket Association. Among others, president of TCA Tapan Lodh was also present in the inaugural programme.

Notably, in the T20 tournament Final match of Sadar Senior Club Cricket, United Friends won by 5 wickets against Bloodmouth.
