The Third Prize Winner of the coveted Mizo Idol Season 7 (2022), David Lalchawisanga Darlong was felicitated on the evening of September 29, 2022 at Vanghmun YMA Hall, Zampui Hill. This felicitation programme was organised by Tripura Group Young Mizo Association (YMA).
David Lalchawisanga Darlong, hails from a small and remote Talan village of Unokuti district, Tripura. David’s father, Biakthanga Darlong currently serves in the Tripura State Rifles (TSR).
During the evening, the Young Mizo Association (YMA), the Mizo Convention Youth Wing (MCYW), the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhâwm Pâwl (MHIP), the Zampui Literary Society (ZLS) and many other corporates and individuals took their turns in giving felicitation gifts to David in cash and kind.
To everyone’s surprise, a group of supporters and fans of David, who call themselves “Tripura DAVIANS Family” came up on stage and handed over a cheque of Rupees 2 lakhs 4 thousand to David for the purchase of a new motorbike. This amount comes up from the group members’ contributions.
Mizo Idol is an annual talent hunt singing competition organised by Zonet Cable TV in Aizawl with entry of contestants in hundreds from Mizo diaspora from around the globe.
This year’s contest is unique in the sense that it has huge following from the different Mizo tribes of Tripura in particular and also from the general people of Tripura, as one of the favourite contestants from the very first round.
David has been the public favourite right from the start of the Idol contest, mainly due to his strong voice and unique dance moves. He has huge following among young people of his age group within Mizoram itself and the larger Mizo diaspora across the globe.
David’s success also brings to light his native Talan village, a small rural village and the state of Tripura to the attention and focus of a much wider public. That’s the power of music, and we wish David a successful musical career in the coming future.
