In the wake of couple of gang rape incident in Tripura in quick succession, Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress activists gheraoed Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s residence and demanded resignation of the Chief Minister on Saturday (October 29).

Recently, four cases of rape incidences were reported from different parts of the State including Agartala.

Police, based on the complaints swung into action and arrested most of the accused persons named in the FIR.

However, two persons are yet to be arrested in Kalyanpur gang rape case and Opposition parties demanded arrest of a Minister’s son, even though not named in the FIR, for his alleged involvement in a gang rape at Kumarghat.

Opposition parties are holding protest programmes condemning the rape incidences.

On Friday, Left wing students’ body SFI held a demonstration in front of Police headquarters in Agartala and women’s wing of CPIM held a protest programme in front of Tripura Women Commission in Agartala on Friday.

Trinamool Congress activists too held a rally in Agartala on Friday.

Youth Congress activists led by its State president Rakhu Das held a protest march up today to the Chief Minister’s residence and gheraoed his residence. The Youth Congress activists were demanding resignation of the Chief Minister in view of ‘growing’ number of crime against women especially minor girl rape incidents.

The Youth Congress activists also demanded arrest of Labour Minister Bhagaban Das’s son for latter’s alleged involvement in the Kumarghat gang rape case.

Youth Congress president Rakhu Das alleged that crores of rupees are being spent in the name of good governance whereas in reality, bad governance is prevailing in Tripura.

Das alleged, incidents like murder, violence, gang rape and crime against women are happening in the state – and the government is unable to curb these incidences.

He further alleged that influential leaders of the ruling party were involved in these incidents.  Later police arrested the agitators.
