A day after the formal announcement on alliance between CPIM and Congress in Tripura, CPIM supporters held a bike rally in Agartala on Saturday (January 14). The bikers raised demands for restoring democracy, rule of the law and people’s rights.

The CPIM activists hit the street alleging that they are not allowed to carry out their democratic activities during the BJP regime. According to them, BJP backed goons are destroying campaign materials, preventing CPIM supporters to hold rallies and intimidating them. They also raised allegations against the BJP claiming that common people are not allowed to raise their voices or vent anger against the ruling party.

In view of the present situation, the bike borne CPIM activists demanded restoration of democracy and rule of the law for the sake of common people.  In this connection, the supporters urged people to oust BJP from power and bring back the CPIM into power.

The CPIM activists in bikes, mostly young, when asked about the alliance with the Congress, smartly avoided the issue and echoing their leaders, the activists said defeating BJP is the prime motto.

CPIM State Committee member Amal Chakraborty led the rally. In 2018 Assembly polls, Chakraborty contested from Banamalipur against BJP’s the then State president who subsequently became the Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb. In the contest, Chakraborty had to bite dust.

The CPIM party leaders, apart from keeping the morale of the activists high against formidable BJP, will have to explain the rationale behind forging alliance with Congress, a bête noir. With time is running out, the task appears to daunting and at least, a section of the party activist even in Agartala city area, are in dilemma.
