Pragati Bidya Bhavan team has once again emerged Champion at the Sadar Inter-School T-20 Cricket Tournament, clinching their third championship title in a thrilling final against Holy Cross School at the MBB Stadium on Sunday. It is the third time that the team emerged champion in the tournament, adding to their previous triumphs in 2012 and 2016.
Holy Cross School, winning the toss, opted to bat first. However, their innings were stifled by the exceptional bowling attack of Pragati Bidya Bhavan. The bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths, restricting the Holy Cross batsmen to a manageable total of 108 runs.
Adrit Dey (26 runs), Maharnab Laskar (19 runs), Kinjal Deb (15 runs), Digvijay Saha (14 runs), and Peterson Reang (12 runs) were the lone bright spots for Holy Cross, managing double-digit scores. Ratan Malakar (3 wickets for 14 runs), Suraj Som (3 wickets for 24 runs), and Rahul Miya (2 wickets for 30 runs) spearheaded Pragati Bidya Bhavan’s bowling attack, dismantling the Holy Cross batting line-up.
Chasing a modest target of 109 runs, Pragati Bidya Bhavan encountered an early setback, losing four wickets for just 35 runs. The team’s hopes seemed to dwindle, but a resolute partnership between Pratik Debnath and Samrat Das brought them back into contention.
The duo stitched together a magnificent unbeaten 78-run stand, playing with composure and calculated aggression. Debnath anchored the innings with a well-paced 41 runs, while Das provided crucial support with a valuable 37 runs. Their partnership steered Pragati Bidya Bhavan towards victory, achieving the target with 30 balls to spare and losing only four wickets.
The triumph was met with unbridled joy by the Pragati Bidya Bhavan players and their coach, Nayanmoni Debbarma. Coach Debbarma, who has been instrumental in all three championship wins, expressed immense pride in his team’s performance.
