Bhangar (South 24 Parganas), July 11: Bhangar under the South 24 Pargans in West Bengal continues to witness violence and brutal murder – the latest victim was a Trinamool Congress leader Rezzak Khan. He was gunned down and hacked to death on Thursday night by unidentified assailants.
Bhangar is infamous for notorious for bloody political violence and political assassinations for a long time. The area is often marred by turf wars and political bloodshed.
To curb its long-standing record of violent political confrontations, Bhangar was brought under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Police. However, this administrative move, as it appears, is yet to show any marked improvement.
The shocking display of violence in which Rezzak Khan, a close aide of TMC MLA Saokat Molla from the Canning (East) Assembly constituency was shot down and repeatedly hacked with sharp weapons late Thursday night while he returning home in Bhangar, once again, underscore the vulnerability and lawlessness prevailing in the area.
Nawsad Siddique, who represents the All India Secular Front (AISF) is Bangar’s current MLA. Siddique is the party’s lone representative in the state assembly. Deceased Rezzak Khan was a well-known Trinamool Congress leader in Bhangar and reportedly he had a notable influence in the grass root level.
Like in previous cases, after the killing of Rezzak, political blame-game surfaced. Saokat Molla fired verbal salvos targeting AISF MLA Siddique.
Molla has directly accused Siddique of orchestrating the killing, alleging that Khan’s growing influence and organizational strength posed a threat to AISF’s foothold in the region.

Siddique, however, dismissed the allegations, attributing the murder to internal conflicts within the Trinamool ranks and maintaining that AISF had no connection to the incident.
Meantime, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma, who visited the crime scene, confirmed that a formal investigation is underway. He declined to share further details at this stage, citing the early phase of the probe. He also confirmed that Khan’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. (Edited)
