18 bn BSF guarding border to stop infiltration : Tripura CM

The State Government is committed to deal with and stop infiltration across the Border.

 

Total 18 battalion BSF personnel are guarding the 856 km long international border with Bangladesh to prevent infiltration bid. Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha said. 

 

Dr Saha also said, total 235 Bangladeshis / Rohingyas were arrested and total 35 cases were lodged under the India Passport Act in 2021, 2022 and 2023 (till July 10).

 

Dr Saha who is also the Home Minister was replying to a Notice regarding Urgent Public Importance raised by MLA Ranjit Debbarma in State Assembly on the last day of the ongoing four-day State Budget Session on Thursday.

 

Dr Saha said, "To thwart illegal infiltration attempt, total 18 battalion BSF Jawans have been deployed along the International Border areas. State Police in active coordination with the BSF are working to prevent illegal activities in the bordering areas".

 

The Chief Minister also informed the House that State Police and BSF are conducting joint patrolling, sharing information and working in tandem to stop illegal infiltration by Bangladesh nationals. 

 

Dr Saha informed the House that total 60 Bangladeshis / Rohingyas were arrested during January 1, 2023 to July 10, 2023. Total 27 cases were filed under the India Passport Act during the period. 

 

MLA Ranjit Debbarma also pointed out unfenced 50 km stretch along the Border under Sepahijala District today. 

 

In reply, the Chief Minister said, barbed wire fencing works could not be completed as most of the 50 km stretch consists of rivers, nallahs and Valley. Besides, at some places, Bangladesh Border Guards also raised objections. The infiltrators are taking advantage of the unfenced area. 

 

He, however, pointed out works for fencing started in the 6.67 km area.
