Agartala- Lokmanya Tilak Express Derails Near Dibalong; No Casualties Reported

The Mumbai bound 12520 Agartala–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express, which departed from Agartala earlier on Thursday, derailed near the Dibalong station. 

The derailment occurred around 15:55 hours in the Lumding–Bardarpur Hill section, under the Lumding division of the Northeast Frontier Railway.

According to the official press release issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer of N.F. Railway, multiple coaches and the engine of the train were affected. Fortunately, no casualties or major injuries were reported in the accident.

Tripura CM Reacts

Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha confirmed all passengers are safe.

In a social media post, Dr Saha wrote, "Relieved to hear all passengers of Lokmanya Tilak Express are safe after some compartments derailed.

Thankfully, low speed minimized impact & no injuries reported, as confirmed by NF Railway's General Manager".

An Accident Relief Train and Accident Relief Medical Train were immediately dispatched from Lumding to the site of the derailment.

Senior officials from the railway division are present at the site, overseeing the ongoing rescue and restoration work.

As a result of the incident, train services on the Lumding–Badarpur single line section have been suspended until further notice.

Trains Cancelled Due to Disruption

The derailment has caused significant disruption to railway operations in the region. The following trains have been cancelled:
1. Train No. 05698 (Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri) Special and Train Nos. 15611/15612 (Rangiya–Silchar–Rangiya) Express scheduled for departure on October 17, 2024.

2. Train No. 05697 (New Jalpaiguri–Guwahati) Special and Train Nos. 15616/15615 (Silchar–Guwahati–Silchar) Express scheduled to commence their journey on October 18, 2024.

The Northeast Frontier Railway authorities have assured the public that all efforts are being made to restore normalcy at the earliest. The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation.
