Attacks on women PS, Tripura CPM Secy expresses concern

State secretary of CPM, Jitendra Choudhury on Monday expressed concern over the attacks at the East Women Police Station in Agartala twice in a single day - on November 21 last.  He also said, opposition party workers are being attacked in the State almost every day – but no one was arrested, so far.

Addressing a poll rally in Sabroom under South Tripura, Choudhury referred to Saayoni case and said Tripura has a political tradition. Here voting was always held amidst a festive mood. Any political party may join in a peaceful campaign. However, the situation has deteriorated over the years.

In this connection, he alleged left party candidates were forced to withdraw nominations in Agartala Municipal Corporation and other Nagar Panchayats.

Referring to the previous Left regime, the CPM State secretary said, after the Leftists assumed power in 1978, the government accorded priority for socio-economic development of people living in urban and rural areas. The development works were rolled out through efficient functioning of the Nagar Panchayats, ADC administration and Gram Panchayats.

Leftists were the driving force of development in Sabroom – construction of Maitri Bridge, Rail Integrated Checkpost and International trade centre etc were sanctioned during the Left Regime, said CPM State secretary Jitendra Choudhury in Sabroom on Monday.

“The incumbent government after assuming power in 2018, failed to fulfill its pre-poll promises like 50 thousand jobs per year, jobs at ‘Missed call’, increasing social allowance to Rs 2000 and REGA wages to Rs 200 etc.”, he said.

“I urge people to raise their voice against the Fascist BJP and defeat them by casting votes in favour of CPM candidates. The victory of Leftists can only ascertain restoration of normalcy in the State”, Choudhury commented.
