End mafia-raj, Tripura CM directs police; Stresses use of technology in Police Stations in State

"To enhance our capabilities, we are employing drone technology to detect cannabis cultivation, with the aim of its eradication," Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said.

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced a strict stance against criminal networks and directed the police force to take decisive steps toward eliminating mafia-raj and organized crimes within the state. He also pitched for using technology by the Police in the battle against crimes.

The Chief Minister chaired a review meeting on 'Law and Order’ with high-ranking officials of the Tripura Police, along with District Superintendents of Police, at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala on Tuesday.

Later Dr. Saha informed the media that the interaction with Tripura Police yielded productive outcomes.

"The primary objective of our meeting was to address the pressing concern of drug-related issues in the state. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have underscored our commitment to eradicating drug-related activities. We are resolute in our pursuit of a drug-free Tripura”.

He continued and said, “To this end, I held discussions with all Tripura Police officials, gathering comprehensive insights from them. From officers-in-charge to senior police personnel, there exists a strong determination to combat this challenge. Our approach to drugs and those involved in this trade is one of zero tolerance. I have issued novel directives and we also engaged in discussions pertaining to technical aspects."

He also raised the matter of Rohingya individuals using Tripura as a conduit to reach other states. "We delved into the reasons behind the entry of Rohingya into Tripura. During my visit to Unakoti District, I observed breaches in the barbed wire fencing caused by river erosion resulting from floods. I also conversed with local villagers. These vulnerabilities are not merely exploited for illegal immigration, but also for cattle smuggling. We deliberated on these concerns and stressed the necessity for enhanced coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Police," explained the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister also held discussions on traffic management, involving talks with the Officer-in-Charge of Women's Police Stations to understand their challenges. He disclosed that advanced technologies were also on the agenda for deployment across police stations.

"To enhance our capabilities, we are employing drone technology to detect cannabis cultivation, with the aim of its eradication," added Dr. Saha.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of police being community-oriented and affirmed the Tripura Police's effective maintenance of law and order.

"I take pride in the robust policing system we have in Tripura. Crime rates have seen a remarkable decline, and the law and order situation has significantly improved," he commented.

Furthermore, he declared the government's strong stance against criminal syndicates. "We are committed to expunging the term 'mafia' from Tripura. No criminal network can find refuge here. Individuals participating in various illicit activities, including extortion and organized crime, will be identified and promptly dealt with. The police will engage with a zero-tolerance approach toward such illegal actions. There will be no interference in the police's operations," the Chief Minister reiterated.

The event was attended by Director General of Police, Amitabha Ranjan, ADG (Law and Order) Saurabh Tripathi, DIG Ipper Manchak, IG GK Rao, District Superintendents of Police, Sub-divisional Police Officers, Officers-in-Charge of various police stations, and other officials.
