The incumbent Tripura government is working to improve the socio-economic status of women, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha reiterated.
He added, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to make women self-reliant in the country and the state government's initiatives are aligned with the Prime Minister's pledge.
Dr Saha made the statement during the inauguration of the 18th Regional Saras Mela at the Hapania International Mela Ground in Agartala on Friday.
The Chief Minister said to implement the Prime Minister's pledge, a plan has already been taken to create lakhpati didis by forming self-help groups of women in the state.
So far, 51,364 self-help groups have been formed in the state. A total of 4,66,566 women have joined these self-help groups.
The theme of this year's Saras Mela is "Lakhpati Didi, Tripura's Progress". On this occasion, the Chief Minister and other guests unveiled the cover of the second edition of the book "Lakhpati Didi".
It is to be noted that a total of 377 stalls have been opened in this year's fair organized by Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission. Of these, 346 stalls have been set up by members of self-help groups from different districts of the state with their products.
In addition, 6 stalls have been set up by self-help groups from other states of the country and the remaining stalls have been set up by various banks and departments.
The 18th Regional Saras Mela will continue till January 8, 2024.
In his inaugural speech, Dr Saha further said the current government is always on the side of women's empowerment in the state.
Therefore, 33% reservation for women has been made in government jobs during this government's tenure. So far, about 1 lakh girls studying in the ninth class of the state have been given bicycles.
In addition, in this budget, a plan has been made to provide scooties to the first 100 girls who have passed higher secondary under the new project called Chief Minister Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana.
In addition, for the convenience of women, 9 women's police stations, 6 family courts, and a one-stop center were opened in each district in the state.
The Chief Minister also said that the state government is also committed to fulfilling the steps being taken to empower women in the country's women's empowerment program, Lakhpati Didi and Drone Didi, under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's program.
Tripura Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Pal also spoke on the occasion.
Chief Executive Officer of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission B Kaur said there are about 82 thousand lakhpati didis in the state so far. The department is working with the target of making more than 1 lakh lakhpati didis by 2025.
After the inaugural ceremony, the guests visited a few stalls in the fair premises. Others present at the event included Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, West Tripura District Collector and Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar.
