Focus on Har Ghar Jal: 53pc rural households in Tripura given tap water connection under JJM

Jal-Jeevan-Mission-Tripura-Har-ghar-jalWith the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ target, Tripura Government brought around 53 percent rural households under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), so far – the coverage would be 60 percent in the next two weeks, said Tripura Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in Agartala on Thursday (July 28).

The Minister while addressing a press conference today, said total number of rural households in Tripura is 7,41,945. Out of this, 3,90,735 – which accounts 52.66 percent – households were brought under the JJM, so far. The target is to ensure tap water supply under the Mission to every household by December, 2022 in line with the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ slogan.

 

“Before launch of the JJM in 2019, total 24,502 rural households - 3.30 per cent of total households- had tap water connections. Under the JJM, 3,66,233 households (49.36 per cent) have so far been provided free water connections. As of now, we have covered total 3,90,735 (52.66 per cent) households,” Chowdhury said.

 

The Minister also presented status of JJM implementation on habitation-wise, Panchayat/Village council-wise and in Sachools and Anganwadi Centres.

 

enewstime-Jal-Jeevan-Mission-Tripura-Har-ghar-jal“Out of the total 8710 habitations (Hamlets) in Tripura, 1238 habitations were provided Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) while 90-100 percent works have been completed in 610 habitations, 75-90 percent works completed in 1001 habitations, 50-75 per cent works completed in 1595 habitations, 25-50 percent works completed in 1510 habitations and 0-25 per cent works have been completed in 1380 habitations”, the Minister said and added there are 1135 habitations where the works are in progress and the works are yet to start in 241 habitations.

 

As far as coverage of Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Village Councils (VCs) under the JJM is concerned, Chowdhury said, cent percent tap water connections have been provided in 29 GPs/VCs out of the total 1176 GPs/VCs.  Besides, 90-100 percent coverage in 62 GPs/VCs, 80-90 per cent coverage in 87 GPs/VCs, 70-80 per cent coverage in 110 GPs/VCs and 70 per cent coverage has been achieved in 888 GPs/VCs, he said and added, the works are in progress in 1140 GPs/VCs and the work is yet to start in 7 Gram Panchayats and Village Councils.

 

Meanwhile, out of 4536 schools and 8932 Anganwadi Centres, 3447 schools (75.99 per cent) and 4821 (53.97 per cent) Anganwadi Centres have already been covered with piped water supply, the DWS minister said.

 

“The DWS department is working on war footing to reach tap water connections to every rural household within December. Moreover, the Central government has released Rs 166 crore for the implementation of the JJM in Tripura”, Sushanta Chowdhury asserted.

 

Among others, Secretary of DWs department Kiran Gitte and Engineer-in-Chief (DWS) Shyamlal Bhowmik were also present in the press conference.
