A fuel crisis is prevailing in Agartala and several places across Tripura as oil tanker drivers in Dharmanagar continue their indefinite strike for the third consecutive day.
The protest, which began two days ago, has disrupted fuel distribution across the state, resulting in long queues at petrol stations. Many fuel outlets have already exhausted their stocks, forcing them to suspend operations indefinitely.
The worsening situation has raised concerns among residents and transport operators, who are struggling to procure fuel for their daily needs.
The scarcity has also impacted emergency services and businesses that rely heavily on a steady fuel supply.
Authorities Issue Warning Amid Supply Disruptions
Amid growing concerns, the district administration in Dharmanagar issued an official alert on Friday evening.
Authorities warned that stringent action would be taken against anyone obstructing the loading, unloading, or transportation of fuel at the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) depot in Dharmanagar.
The administration has urged the striking drivers to resume work while assuring them that their grievances will be addressed through dialogue.
The Cause Behind the Protest
Sources alleged, the crisis stems from internal conflicts within the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS). A dispute between two factions of the trade union reportedly escalated into violence, leading to the ransacking of the oil tanker drivers’ office on Thursday.
Outraged by the attack, the majority of tanker drivers halted their work in protest, demanding action against those responsible for the vandalism.
With no immediate resolution in sight, fuel supplies continue to dwindle, leaving the state vulnerable to further disruptions in essential services.
State Govt Monitoring Situation
Recognizing the urgency of the matter, the Tripura government has stepped in to assess the crisis. Officials from the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department are actively monitoring the situation and working on potential solutions to restore fuel distribution at the earliest.
Efforts are also being made to mediate discussions between the warring factions to prevent further unrest.
