Human skull at Kalyan Sagar Dighi: Tripura CM ensures thorough investigation

Tripura Chief Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, has pledged a comprehensive investigation into the incident in which a human skull was found at the Kalyan Sagar Dighi, located within the premises of the renowned Tripura Sundari Temple in the Gomati District.

In response to a query raised by the Leader of the Opposition, Animesh Debbarma, during the fourth day of the budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Dr. Saha, who also oversees the Home Department, assured that the police are actively pursuing the matter.

"The preliminary report from the Gomati District Magistrate has been received, and we have already examined the CCTV footage within and around the temple," stated the Chief Minister. He further disclosed that a thorough search of the Kalyan Sagar water body had been conducted, with assistance from expert underwater divers from the 6th battalion Tripura State Rifles (TSR), who are currently engaged in another search operation today. CM Saha emphasized that the police are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to solve the mystery surrounding this incident.

Moreover, Chief Minister Saha assured that the authorities are taking all necessary measures to unravel the enigma. "We have involved the forensic department in this investigation," he announced. "I can guarantee a meticulous inquiry into this matter. Additionally, in accordance with religious customs, a ban on public access and the performance of traditional rituals at Kalyan Sagar has been imposed for the next 42 days."

It is worth noting that a skull was discovered floating on the Kalyan Sagar of the Tripura Sundari Temple on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters, the chief priest of the temple, Chandan Chakraborty, expressed his shock and stated, "The incident is completely unexpected and astonishing. However, without any confirmation, it is premature to make any definitive statements regarding this matter."

The head priest also mentioned that proper purification rituals of the holy waters of the temple, known as "Suddhikaran," will be performed, and until then, access to Kalyan Sagar will remain restricted.

The police have recovered the skull and have taken it to the hospital for further examination.
