Kharchi Puja: A Melting Pot of Culture and Devotion in Tripura all set to begin on July 14

The traditional Kharchi festival of Tripura is set to begin from Sunday. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha will attend the inaugural programme of the Kharchi Puja at Krishna Mala Mukta Mancha, Chaturdas Devta Bari Temple in Agartala tomorrow at 11:30 AM.

A day prior to the auspicious beginning, the ceremonial bathing procession (Snan Yatra) of the fourteen gods (Chaturdash Devata) of Kharchi took place on Saturday afternoon. The head priest of the temple of the fourteen gods, Chantai, inaugurated this procession today. As per the tradition, the Chantai was accorded Gourd of honor amidst presence of devotees.

As in every year, the procession was conducted with all religious rituals at the bathing ghat of the Haora River. The locals and distinguished people of the area enjoyed and participated in this ceremonial journey.

Kharchi-festival-tripuraGovernor Indrasena Reddy Nallu extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the residents of Tripura on the occasion of the Kharchi Puja and festival.

In his message of greetings, the Governor said, “Kharchi is one of the most popular festivals of Tripura. This festival takes place every year in the month of Ashadha and continues for a week. The festival is organized at the temple of the fourteen gods in Old Agartala. During the festival days, devotees from various parts of the state and outside gather in the temple premises of the fourteen gods.”

The Governor expressed hope that the Kharchi festival would bring joy, happiness, love, prosperity, and brotherhood to the lives of the people of Tripura.

Earlier, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha conveyed his greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of the traditional Kharchi Puja festival. 

In his message of greetings, the Chief Minister said, "The grand Kharchi Puja festival of our state has now transformed into a universal celebration for all communities and ethnicities."

"May the blessings of Chaturdasha Devata shower upon the residents of the state. We firmly believe that it will lead us forward with health and prosperity", Dr Saha wished.

Week-long Kharchi Puja is one of the most popular festivals in Tripura in which people of all walks of life irrespective of ethnicity take part. During the festival, hundreds of stalls by the Government agencies and private organisations etc have been set up which adds more colours to the celebration.
