No plan for Corona Day Curfew now: Tripura CM

Close on the heels of uptick in Covid cases in Tripura, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday said there is no possibility of imposing Corona Day Curfew in the state, as of now.

He said the Covid positivity rate is high—around 28 percent in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area and over 13 percent in the state. But, when the government is giving priority to public health safety, the economic activities also need to go on, Deb said.

Deb was speaking to the media during his visit to a vaccination centre at A.D. Nagar health sub centre in Agartala on Sunday.

He reassured the people, “Tripura is ready to deal, be it Omicron or Covid third wave.” He appealed to all for obeying the Covid guidelines as prescribed by the Health department.

During the visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Ratan Chakraborty, chief whip Kalyani Roy, Badharghat MLA Mimi Majumder and health officials.

He announced that the A.D. Nagar health sub-centre would be upgraded to Primary Health Centre with all necessary facilities. A new building would be constructed at an expenditure of Rs. 3 crore and the project would be completed by the next one and a half years.

Meantime, for the second successive day on Sunday, Tripura recorded three more Covid related deaths – pushing the death toll up to six during the ongoing third wave Covid.

The spread of the Covid -10 continued with a formidable force registering 13.35 percent positivity. The rate on Sunday shot up from 9.40 per cent on Saturday.

According to official statement on Sunday, apart from three more deaths due to Covid infection, also 1,168 persons were found to be positive. On Saturday the figure was 546.
