The vibrant and culturally rich Ranglong Khohui Festival, dedicated to the celebration of cultural heritage, traditional practices, and community bonding, was successfully held at Saisimdung (Indurail) under the Panisagar subdivision of the North Tripura district.
Organized by the Ranglong Youth Association (RYA) with the esteemed patronage of the North Eastern Council, the three-day festival provided a significant platform to revive and showcase the diminishing cultural heritage of the Ranglong community.
The festival, which ended on Saturday, sought to rekindle interest among the younger generation in traditional songs, dances, games, and culinary delights, ensuring that these cherished traditions are preserved for posterity.
The Ranglong Khohui Festival 2025 was inaugurated with grandeur by Minister of Forest, General Administration (Printing and Stationery), Science, Technology, and Environment of the Tripura Government, Animesh Debbarma.
A distinguished panel of guests graced the occasion, including Binay Bhushan Das (MLA, 58-Panisagar Assembly Constituency), Bimal Chakma (MDC, Karamchhara, TTAADC), Robert Romawia Royte (MLA, Mizoram), Jadablal Nath (MLA, 55-Bagbassa Assembly Constituency), and Jahar Saha (Chairman, Tripura Horticulture Development Board).
The dignitaries underscored the importance of cultural preservation and inter-community harmony.
A Festival of Cultural Revival and Unity
The Ranglong Khohui Festival was conceptualized with a twofold objective - first, to breathe new life into the fading customs and traditions of the Ranglong people, and second, to foster a sense of unity and peace among diverse communities.
The festival played a pivotal role in educating the youth about their roots through active participation from senior citizens, who shared invaluable insights into their heritage.
Given that much of the Ranglong culture remains undocumented, the festival emerged as an instrumental platform for cultural documentation and transmission, ensuring that future generations remain connected to their rich past.
A Colorful Extravaganza of Traditions
The festival brimmed with energy and enthusiasm as participants from various Ranglong villages came together to showcase their traditional arts.
Spectacular performances of indigenous songs, dynamic folk dances, and exhilarating traditional games enthralled the audience. One of the highlights was the food exhibition, where visitors had the opportunity to savor authentic Ranglong delicacies, offering a taste of the community’s rich culinary history.
Competitions held during the festival brought out the best talents from the community, with winners receiving accolades and awards.
However, beyond the contests, the festival served as a melting pot of cultures, drawing people from different communities who joined in the festivities with messages of peace, unity, and mutual respect.
Expressions of Gratitude and Commitment for the Future
As the festival concluded on a high note, the Ranglong Youth Association (RYA) and the organizing committee extended heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, participating artists, and supporting organizations.
Special appreciation was conveyed to the North Eastern Council for its invaluable patronage, which played a crucial role in making the event a grand success.
The festival’s success was further amplified by the enthusiastic participation of artists from diverse communities, whose mesmerizing performances left the audience spellbound.
Their involvement not only enriched the cultural experience but also reinforced the festival’s underlying message of inclusivity and harmony.
On the final day, a collective resolve was formed among the participants—youth, elders, and children alike—to expand and elevate the festival to even greater heights in the coming years.
With the triumphant conclusion of the Ranglong Khohui Festival 2025, a significant step has been taken toward safeguarding and promoting the Ranglong community’s cultural heritage.
The festival’s resounding success has set the stage for a grander celebration in the future, ensuring that the legacy of the Ranglong people continues to thrive for generations to come.
