Road infrastructure in Tripura gets major boost: Nitin Gadkari sanctions projects worth Rs 2236.59 cr
Road infrastructure in Tripura received a major boost as the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways sanctioned projects worth Rs 2236.59 crore on Thursday (March 23).
Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for sanctioning the fund. Dr Saha reiterated, “We are committed to building ‘Unnata Tripura, Shrestha Tripura’”.
Earlier, in a series of tweets, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari mentioned funds worth Rs 210.54 crore and Rs 2026.05 crore were sanctioned for Highway projects in Tripura.
He tweeted, “Rs 210.54 Crore was approved for the rehabilitation and upgradation of the road from the Agartala-Khowai section on NH 108B to 2-lane with paved shoulders in West Tripura district”. The Union Minister also said, the total length of the project is 12.8 Km and will be developed in Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.
In another tweet, the Union Minister further wrote that Rs 2026.05 Crore was sanctioned for the construction of a 4-lane with paved shoulder Agartala bypass (Western side, length – 25.402 Km) connecting NH-8 (near Amtali) to NH-108B (near Lembuchhera) in EPC basis.
The construction industry uses the EPC mode to ensure that the project is completed on time and within the budget.
Soon after receiving the information, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha tweeted and expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister.
Informed sources opined the sanctioned projects will simplify transportation and immensely help take road connectivity to the next level in the State. Improvement of road connectivity with the increase in economic activities will accrue dividends. Moreover, opening up of South East Asia via Bangladesh is on cards and with this, the sanctioned projects will be proved beneficial.
