A preparatory meeting for state-level Khelo Tripura Para Games-2024 was held today at Conference Hall No. 2 of the Secretariat on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy. Present at the meeting were the Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Secretary of the Tripura Sports Council, Sukanta Ghosh, representatives of government and non-governmental organizations for the disabled, representatives of DDRCs from each district, and officials from various departments.
It was decided at the meeting that district-level Para Games would be organized along with the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 in every district of the state. The state-level Khelo Tripura Para Games will be held at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in the second week of December.
The state-level Para Games will feature competitions in 14 events. These events include shot put, 50-meter race, ring throw, long jump, chess, carrom, kabaddi, blind cricket, musical ball, and chair. It was also mentioned at the meeting that four new sports - wheelchair, standing broad jump, buchi, and run - have been added to the state-level Khelo Tripura Para Games.
It was also mentioned that 40 disabled athletes selected from the district-level competitions would participate in the state-level competition.
Addressing the meeting, Tinku Roy said that persons with disabilities are an important part of our society. The development of our society will remain incomplete without the development of persons with disabilities. He called upon all concerned to come forward to make this competition a success.
A 29-member organizing committee and 14 sub-committees were formed at the meeting with the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy, as the chairman, Secretary of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Secretary of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, Tapas Roy, and Secretary of the Tripura Sports Council, Sukanta Ghosh, as vice-chairmen to ensure the successful completion of the state-level Khelo Tripura Para Games-2024.
It is worth mentioning that the first state-level Khelo Tripura Para Games was organized in 2023 under the joint initiative of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education.
