Women play an important role in the development of the rural economy. In Tripura, women are now encouraged to participate in agriculture and allied sectors. Women in rural areas are involved in various economic activities through self-help groups, said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha while inaugurating the seminar on "Empowerment of Women Farmers in Tripura" organized by the Tripura Commission for Women and National Commission for Women at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala on Thursday.
In his inaugural speech, the Chief Minister said the Central and State Governments have taken various initiatives for the socio-economic development of women. If women’s development can be achieved, the country and the state will progress leading to the development of society. Therefore, the government has taken various steps to bring women to the forefront. During the tenure of this government, a 33% reservation was announced for women in government jobs. Bicycles were given to girl students studying in schools.
Dr Saha also said 9 women police stations, 6 family courts, one stop centers etc. have been set up in the state to ensure the safety of women. Stamp duty has been reduced to 1% for women for registration of documents.
The Chief Minister said the government has taken the initiative to provide financial assistance under the Chief Minister's Pashu Palak Samman Nidhi Scheme to make the people of the state, especially women, self-reliant. Besides, the Chief Minister's Livestock Development Scheme, and Chief Minister's Godhan Yojana are being implemented in the state.
He emphasized the quality of the products produced by the self-help groups as well as making the finished products attractive. The Chief Minister said that the women of our state are not lagging in any way. Women of the state are setting an example in various fields. Women of the state have now also become pilots.
At the event, National Women's Commission member Delina Khongdup said, "Farmers are our life. Therefore, this kind of seminar organized by the Tripura Women's Commission is a very important event”. Tripura Women's Commission Chairperson Barnali Dey said at the event, "Women play an important role in agriculture. They work hard in the fields and also take care of the family. It is important to empower women farmers."
In the programme, Papia Das Nandi, member of Maa Kali SHG handed over gifts made by her to the Chief Minister.
