Tripura CM meets PM, discusses SEZ funding, Rubber, tea sector modernization

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday. During his visit, the Chief Minister discussed the several issues of the State with the Prime Minister.

According to a press release, funding for SEZ at Jalefa in Sabroom featured in the discussion with the Prime Minister. Deb also mentioned about a shortfall of Rs 2200 crore and the 15th Finance Commission.  Moreover, modernization of Rubber and Tea sectors were also discussed.

Deb requested the Prime Minister funding of special economic zone at Jalefa, Sabroom under the Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme of Ministry of Commerce. He also urged to expedite the DPR preparation for Logistics Hub at Sabroom for funding from Asian Development Bank.

The Chief Minister sought support of Government of India for the Rubber and Tea Sectors, particularly for modernizing the infrastructure of smoke-houses for rubber sheets and restructuring of debt of tea-gardens in Tripura. The Prime Minister advised Deb to harness solar power for smokehouses for rubber.

Further, Biplab Kumar Deb sought support for meeting the shortfall of Rs. 2200 crore for 2020-21 under 15th Finance Commission Grants and release of balance funds of about Rs. 650 crore from Ministry of Finance for completion of ongoing projects worth Rs. 1000 crore.

The Chief Minister requested the Prime Minister for removing the moratorium on new proposals for externally aided projects by Department of Economic Affairs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured help and support in this regard. Deb also briefed Modi regarding the various measures being taken by the State Government for effectively combating the COVID pandemic.
