Tripura CM opens new facilities at GBP Hospital on 63rd Foundation Day

The state government is actively engaged in implementing a range of schemes aimed at improving healthcare services for all residents. Hospitals are witnessing the addition of new services, and the collaborative efforts of the government are making these benefits accessible to the common people. Simultaneously, there is a noticeable decline in the number of out-of-state referrals, primarily attributed to the enhanced services now available in state-run hospitals, said Chief Minister of Dr Manik Saha in Agartala on Saturday.

Dr Saha was addressing an event held to mark the 63rd Foundation Day celebration of Govinda Vallabh Panth (GBP) Hospital on Saturday.

As part of the 63rd Foundation Day commemoration, the Chief Minister inaugurated several new services including the opening of a super specialty building and the launch of a second medicine ward for women.

Reflecting on the significance of GB Hospital, the Chief Minister noted that it has evolved over the years as a vital institution in response to the progress of civilization and the growing needs of the community.

He said, “GB Hospital has earned a remarkable reputation, particularly for its role during the 1971 liberation war, where GB doctors played a leading role in treating patients and victims from Bangladesh. Many senior doctors from that era continue to be remembered for their dedicated service, and this legacy is acknowledged not only by the people of Bangladesh but also by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh”.

Dr Saha added, GB Hospital has since transformed into a medical college, significantly improving its overall service quality. Today, the services at GB Hospital are on par with the corporate sector in many aspects.

“In the past, patients often had to be referred outside the state, but this is no longer the case. A primary focus of the state government is developing the healthcare system, and it is actively working towards achieving this objective”, Dr Saha asserted.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, which provides annual health insurance of Rs 5 lakhs, is a crucial initiative. Approximately 12 lakh people in Tripura have received Ayushman cards under this scheme. While the procedure is primarily intended for the economically disadvantaged, an allocation of Rs 59 crore has been made under the 'Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana' to extend the benefits to those outside the scheme's purview.

Moreover, Chief Minister Dr. Saha also highlighted the establishment of a dental college at IGM Hospital and a Nursing College within the IGM premises.

Dr. Saha reiterated the government has allocated funds for the establishment of approximately 100 more sub health centers in the current year's budget to take the medical services to rural people, as well. Trauma care centers have been established at various district hospitals, including Shantirbazar, Udaipur, and Ambasa, with plans for one more trauma care center in Dharmanagar. Notably, a Cardiac Care Center has been inaugurated in Ambasa.

The Chief Minister also engaged with the audience on various other pressing issues related to medical services. Among others, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Health Department Secretary Dr. Rathore Sandeep Rewaji, Health Department Director Dr. Supriya Mallick, other Health department officials alongwith AGMC principal Dr Anup Kumar Saha and Medical Superintendent of GBP, Dr. Shankar Chakraborty were present in the programme.
