The Government of Tripura hiked the fund for the MLA Development Project by Rs 25 lakh.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha made the announcement on the first day of the winter session of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly on Friday.
He said in the House, "The MLA area development project will have an additional Rs 25 lakh, raising the total amount from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 75 lakh".
Dr Saha further said, "This means that the overall financial allocation for the 60 MLAs of the state will go up from Rs 30 crore to Rs 45 crore. This announcement will be effective from the financial year 2024-25".
According to the Chief Minister, the reason for increasing the fund allocation under this project was to address the difficulties faced by the MLAs in carrying out developmental works in their constituencies with the existing fund of Rs 50 lakh.
The decision was applauded by the members of the Treasury Bench. However, Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Animesh Debbarma of the TIPRA Motha Party asked for a further increase in the allocation under the MLA Development Project to Rs one crore.
CPIM MLA Dipankar Sen also made the similar demand of raising the allocation under the MLA Development Project to Rs one crore.
Meantime, the first day of the session was adjourned after the Governor's address to the Assembly followed by paying tributes to deceased sitting MLAs, Samsul Haque and Surajit Datta.
The House will convene on Monday.
