Tripura CM spotlights Modi Government's vision in Dhanpur by-poll campaign

As part of his ongoing mega campaign blitz, Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha hit the streets in by-poll bound Dhanpur for BJP-nominated candidate Bindu Debnath on Thursday.

During the campaign, Dr Saha underlined the Modi government’s development philosophy and spotlighted the ‘misrule’ and 'under-development' of the Left Front era.

Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan – ‘Sab ka saath, Sab ka Vikas’ – Dr Saha urged the people of Dhanpur to ensure the victory BJP candidate for holistic development and improvement in the socio-economic condition of the local populace.

The Chief Minister took part in multiple campaign programmes ranging from Padayatra to door-to-door canvassing and courtyard meetings across the constituency today.

Notably, CPIM held the seat till the 2023 Assembly polls and former Chief Minister and veteran CPIM leader Manik Sarkar represented the Dhanpur constituency. However, in 2023, Manik Sarkar did not contest and MoS Pratima Bhoumik of BJP defeated CPIM’s new face Kaushik Chanda by a margin of 3500 votes. By-polls became imminent after Bhoumik’s resignation as per the party’s Central leadership.

This time it is a battle between BJP’s Bindu Debnath and CPIM’s Kaushik Chanda.

The top brass of the BJP are engaged in canvassing for the saffron candidates in Dhanpur and Boxanagar. The ruling BJP received a major boost after a section of the Janajati voters joined the BJP on Wednesday (August 30). Buoyed after gaining mileage in the Janajati-dominated area – Taibandal, BJP launched a fresh campaign offensive spearheaded by the Chief Minister today.

During the campaign, Dr Manik Saha upheld his government’s commitment to overall developmental activities in the State. His campaign mainly rested on two issues –

Pointing out that the people of Dhanpur had rejected CPIM in the last Assembly polls, Dr. Saha said, “The people of Dhanpur have turned away from all those political parties, including CPIM and Congress, who have impeded Dhanpur's development for an extended period through acts of violence, terrorism, false promises and factionalism. The people have rallied behind the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Hence, we are confident of securing victory in the upcoming by-elections as well.”

Dr Saha was accompanied by MLA Antara Deb Sarkar, former MLA Mimi Majumder, ARDD Minister Sudhangshu Das, and other leaders during the campaign.
