Tripura CM takes steps to revive ancient Royal tradition, meets Samajpatis

In an initiative to revive the royal tradition after long years, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday met the leaders and eminent personalities of different indigenous communities.

While exchanging Bijoya Dashami greetings with them, the Chief Minister also highlighted various plans of the state government for the overall development of indigenous section.

In the meantime, Pradyut Kishore Manikya among others made his presence in the meeting which appeared to be a major stroke of Biplab-led government ahead of the TTAADC election.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said, “a proposal of Rs. 200 crore meant for development of road infrastructure in ADC areas has been sent to the Centre for approval. Besides, the state government’s proposal for renaming TTAADC to Tipra Territorial Council is expected to get Centre’s nod very soon.”

The Chief Minister also made another important announcement that the Tribal Welfare Department would be renamed as Indigenous (Janajati) Welfare Department. The indigenous community leaders and other eminent personalities who were present in the meeting were visibly found happy with the Chief Minister’s announcements.

Deb said his government is committed for an all-round development of the indigenous people. He also pointed out that the new government had already taken some important steps to improve the socio-economic status of the Janajati people across the state.

The Chief Minister also spoke on the permanent settlement of around 34000 Bru people in Tripura that solved a long-pending issue. The central government also announced a Rs. 600-crore package for their rehabilitation, he said while extending sincere thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in this regard. The Chief Minister also highlighted various others initiatives of the state government for the welfare of people.

Revenue minister N.C. Debbarma said such Bijaya sommeloni (meeting with Samajpatis) was a tradition during the royal regime. This initiative is an effort of the state government for reviving the royal tradition, he said.

Forest minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia said development of the indigenous people is one of the priorities of the state government. The government, he said, is taking various initiatives to uphold the rich heritage, traditions and cultures of the indigenous people.

MP Rebati Tripura who also attended the meeting said appealed the Samajpatis of various communities to play positive role for development of the indigenous section.

Meanwhile, Pradyut Kishore Manikya appreciated the initiative taken by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb while 101-year-old Padmashree awardee Thanga Darlong, who came from Kailashahar to take part in the programme, also praised the effort of the state government.

MLA Ramapada Jamatia and MLA Atul Debbarma and many others were present in the meeting and they also shared their views.
