Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Saha, visited GB Pant Hospital on Thursday to inquire about the health condition of those who suffered severe injuries during the Ulto Rath Yatra in Kumarghat of Unakoti on Wednesday (Jun 28). The Chief Minister carefully inspected the hospital and expressed his thoughts on the situation.
It may be mentioned, the Chief Minister rushed to the accident site in Kumarghat on Wednesday soon after the mishap happened.
"I had discussions with the doctors and spoke to the patients. The medical staff is tirelessly working towards the recovery of the patients, and I remain hopeful that they will soon regain their health," the Chief Minister said.
Dr. Saha further emphasized that he had given clear instructions to ensure there would be no issues regarding financial assistance. "I have personally instructed the Chief Secretary, Health Secretary, and GB Pant Medical Superintendent that the government will bear all expenses, including food and medicines. We are providing comprehensive support to those affected. While some individuals may still be facing challenges, the majority are showing signs of steady recovery," he affirmed.
The Chief Minister also announced relief measures for the victims. The next of kin of the deceased will receive Rs. 4 lakh, while individuals with burn injuries exceeding 60 percent will receive Rs. 2.50 lakh. Those with burn injuries ranging from 40 to 60 percent will be given Rs. 74,000.
Meantime, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhowmik, led a delegation to Kumarghat on Thursday morning to provide support following the tragic incident. The delegation visited the hospital and the residences of the affected victims. Pratima Bhowmik and other party leaders assured all sorts of help to the deceased families and those undergoing treatment.
At least seven persons including three children were killed during the Ulto Rath (Return Chariot) and around 16 persons are battling with critical injuries at Kumarghat on Wednesday. The tragedy occurred after the top of the Chariot touched an overhead high-tension electricity transmission line.
