After recent poll drubbing in District Councils, the junior ally of the ruling coalition in Tripura, IPFT is desperately trying to regain lost grounds before upcoming Assembly elections.
The regional indigenous party, IPFT is facing its worst ever existential crisis with the emergence of Pradyot Kishore led TIPRA Motha. The core concept of IPFT, setting up Tipraland has been swept away by the concept of ‘Greater Tipraland’ as mooted by Pradyot Kishore.
In view of the fast waning base level support, the IPFT leaders have already started holding meetings to decide the strategies to stay relevant in State politics.
Close on the heels of meeting with North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) chairman Himanta Biswa Sarma, a delegation of IPFT met Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday.
According to a social media post shared by the Chief Minister, he had a ‘meaningful discussion’ on the overall development of indigenous community. He also mentioned that the strategies for development of the rural economy through start-ups and new job opportunities were discussed.
“Had a meaningful discussion with alliance partner, IPFT MLAs on the overall development of indigenous community. Discussed the strategies for development of rural economy, which will pave the way for the emergence of indigenous start ups and create new job opportunities,” the Chief Minister wrote on his social media handle.
In the meantime, a delegation of IPFT led by State Cabinet minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia held a meeting with the NEDA chairman and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at his official residence in Assam on August 25 last.
General secretary of IPFT Shukla Charan Noatia was also part of the delegation. The update was shared by Noatia in his Twitter handle read, “Delegation of IPFT Tripura lead by Cabinet Minister Sh @KumarMevar called on the the Hon. Chairman of NEDA and The Chief Minister of Assam Sh @himantabiswa ji at his official residence. Dr. Sarma played a vital role in 2018 Tripura Election”.
