At least nine passengers were killed in the Agartala – Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express accident and several others were injured. Among the injured, two injured passengers from Tripura were identified, so far.
They are Anup Das (28 Years) S/0. Dhananjoy Das of Renters Colony. Jogendra Nagar. Agartala and Hasan Shekh (23 Years). S/0 Yadil Shekh of Madhya Bhuban Ban, Agartala. Both the injured persons are presently undergoing treatment in North Bengal Medical College. As per available information both of them sustained minor injury.
Members of the team sent to the spot from Tripura Bhavan, visited the hospital and met with them. The team also extended support. Team members took measures to make contact between the injured passengers and their respective family members. Till now both of the injured passengers received the financial assistance of Rs.50,000/- each from Railway Authority.

Prez, Guv express grief
President Droupadi Murmu has expressed grief over the tragic train accident in Darjeeling, West Bengal. In a social media post today, the President said, the news of the loss of lives due to a train accident in Darjeeling is deeply distressing. She said, her thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families.
The President prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and the success of relief and rescue operations.
Governor of Tripura Indra Sena Reddy Nallu expressed his shock at the accident of Agartala – Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express occurred near New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal on Monday. He also prayed for deceased persons.
In a message, the Governor said, “It is unfortunate that nany people were killed in the accident in which goods train collided with the Kanchenjunga Express train”. The Governor prayed to God that the soul of the deceased rests in peace. He also requested the Ministry of Railways and other concerned officers to provide better medical care to those injured in the accident.
Former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb also expressed grief. He said, “The news of the accident of Kanchenjunga Express train going from Agartala to Sealdah in Darjeeling is very painful. May God give peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. I pray to Mata Tripura Sundari for the speedy recovery of the injured”.
